Message from the Chairperson
Our Indian standard of education is excellent. Our students are among the best in the world. They score high marks – even securing 100% in English! But can we truly say that our children are well-rounded? Are they not just masters of marks but also fluent in languages, communication, and general knowledge? Have they developed team spirit and leadership qualities, which participation in sports can help nurture? Do they see beyond the confines of school and home to recognize inequalities, which participation in social work can help address?
They may excel in securing marks, but can they confidently participate in public debates or present themselves admirably in interviews skills that activities like debates, elocution, and drama help develop? In our pursuit of high grades, we have discarded or forgotten many character-building practices from the past.
Institutions like the National Cadet Corps, Scouts and Guides, and the Social Service League; the arts, crafts, culture, and philosophies of our country, which many children are unfamiliar with; and the history crumbling around us, which our children are unaware they are losing all of these have so much to offer. They must be preserved with care before they are lost to the vicissitudes of time.
The Delhi World Foundation, a Dipsites Pedagogy System and Knowledge Initiative pioneered by a group of graduates from Delhi Public Schools who have made their mark in the world, seeks to elevate education to a higher level. Our goal is not just rote learning and coaching for high scores and competitive exams but an overall, holistic, and focused initiative to produce well-rounded individuals.
Of course, we intend to maintain the highest standards of education that is a given. What we emphasize is the road we are taking to get there. Perhaps it is the road less travelled, but we hope it is a road filled with adventure, curiosity, and wonder. This is the challenge we at the Delhi World Foundation have embraced wholeheartedly.
The wealth of knowledge and experience of our Life Trustees, Term Trustees, Advisory Council, and Members of the Education & Resource Council is being harnessed to open our students’ eyes to the wonders of not just our country but the world. We aim to help them appreciate art and create it—through pottery, painting, sculpture, and mosaic. To establish their own individual identities through creativity. To not only carve printing blocks or make handmade paper from rags and waste but to take it further by printing on the paper and creating value-added products like greeting cards, stationery, and decorative boxes.Simply put, we want them to enjoy an exciting childhood and not be forced to become premature adults. Join us in this new adventure full of wonder and care.
